Philip A. Martin-Luckhurst, Jr. is a painter and muralist based in Owosso, Michigan, working primarily in traditional oil painting techniques. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he transitioned into a civilian life centered on studio practice and community engagement. He received his BFA in Painting from Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.
His work draws from the visual language of the Baroque and Dutch Golden Age, particularly their use of dramatic lighting and attention to material. Influenced by his travels, Martin-Luckhurst explores how historical techniques can be used to interpret contemporary subjects. Through both studio paintings and public murals, he seeks to capture a sense of life and presence reminiscent of historical masters while introducing subtle elements of modern irony.
