Philip A. Martin-Luckhurst, Jr is a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked as an Electronics Warfare Technician and offered his artistic assistance whenever he could. Recently separated he finds his civilian life filled with oil paint. He lives in Owosso Michigan, where he involved with the Shiawassee Arts Center, Shiawassee Artist’s Guild, and the MidMichigan Artist’s Guild. He also works throughout the community painting murals and bringing historical recognition to the city. He is inspired by his travels in and out of the military and practices a blend of traditional and contemporary painting techniques; using brown-scale underpaintings with layers of colored glazes and wet on wet applications. He is currently utilizing his GI Bill at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University and plans to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Art Painting. Martin-Luckhurst finds the Dutch Golden age of painting to be inspirational as they capture life with the use of dramatic lighting and delicate colors. He aspires to capture as much life as the master’s once had while providing a modern or comical twist.
